Writing FAQ + Tips + About

yolucas:

hiiiiii. So I get a lot of repetitive questions and such about my writing so I thought I’d address them all in one lil’ (longass) post!

Things I DO NOT Write (About):

  • Personal Imagines
  • BoyxBoy (You can ship what you want- I just find the boyxboy shipping weird, I’ll never, ever write about it)
  • Abuse/Neglect- These are topics too serious, too deep to write about. No one can properly fathom into words the horrors that come along with Abuse (whether it be verbal, physical, sexual) and Neglect. I am personally scared to write anything like this, in the fear of romanticizing it or making it seem as if it isn’t a big deal- even though it is a huge deal. So please, don’t request “He Hits You”, because I’m never going to promote abuse, my beliefs are as soon as someone abuses you in anyway, you should leave them and call the police.
  • The same goes for Rape/Sexual Assult, I will never write about it for those^ reasons.
  • Certain Personal Struggles: Although I have personally experienced what it’s like to self-harm, have an eating disorder and experience  suicidal thoughts, I don’t write very much about these. Again, even though I’ve been through these and know what they’re like, I don’t want to promote them in any way. You CAN request preferences related to Depression, Self-Harm, Suicide, Anxiety, Etc., but there’s no guarantee I’ll write it!
  • That’s about it, I do reserve the right to deny requests, I mean really, I’m sure that’s obvious.

.

Things I DO Write:

  • One Shots (also known as Imagines)
  • Smut
  • Preferences
  • Blurbs
  • Fan Fictions (posted on my Wattpad; lucashemmings)
  • Anything not listed in the DO NOT category!

WRITING FAQ:

.

Can I request? Always! Just don’t be vague, and follow the guidelines above on the things I do and don’t write. ♛

Differences Between Blurbs, Smut, One Shots, Imagines and Preferences? An imagine is the same thing as a one shot, it’s a long pierce of writing generally about just one of the boys. It’s almost like I mini-one chapter fan fiction. Smut is an imagine, but sexual, it involves sex, pretty straightforward. A preference is generally written like “Luke leaned down, gently kissing your lips before resting his forehead against yours”, and is based on a topic, and has a part for each of the boys. A blurb is the same, however it’s generally written like “I think in insert a situation Luke would do this…” (blurbs are less formal). ♛

Will You Read…? Definitely! If you want me to check out your writings, tag me in it! Don’t ask me to reblog or like it though- just ask me to read it, and if I really like it, I’ll add it to my rec’s page! ♛

Smut/Pref Blog Recs? 5saucefeels, acidcxlum, 5sos-writing, smut5sos, barakisses, smuttyscribbles. ♛

Are You Looking For A Co-Owner? No, I work solo! ♛

How Do You Get Over Writers Block? I get inspired. I go outside, go for walks, listen to music, watch TV, etc.! ♛

Why Don’t You Post As Often? I post quite often during summer break! However, school starts back up for me September 2nd and I’ll be extremely busy. But hear me out- I’m in 12th grade, all my courses are University level (Calculus, Advanced Functions, Economics, International Business, Canadian and International Law & English) so I have loads of homework. I actually have to get good grades too, since I’ll be applying to University in November! ♛

Can I Re-Post Your Writing Onto… No. Nope. No. No. If you want reads and votes, you can write your own stuff. This is my work, and if you re-post it, I will report you for copyright. I have no mercy on people who re-post my writings-because I consider it stealing. Sorry not sorry. ♛

Do You Have Any Writing References? This masterpost is super helpful. ♛

WRITING TIPS?

These are just my personal writing tips, I don’t think I’m some super amazing writer but I think I know the basics!

.

PREFERENCES & IMAGINES:

» If you’re going to write a smutty/sexual preference or one shot you should probably look at my smut tips below because they apply in this situation.

» Please, I am begging you, do not write about personal topics (panic attacks, depression, self-harm, eating disorders, abuse, etc.) unless you have experienced them. No matter how much research you do, you will never understand what it is like unless you have gone through it. Every writer I’ve seen (even the great writers) that write preferences like this without the experience end up forgetting key points or worse, romanticizing it.

» Don’t overuse stereotypes. I see a lot of people using common things about/to the boys in every single one of their preferences, and it gets quite boring. Try not to overuse certain stereotypes: like Luke’s height (you don’t need to say in every preference ‘his large frame towered over mine’ like yeah okay), or Michael’s love of pizza/video games (yes he likes them but does he really have to be eating or playing video games in every single piece of writing??).

» Don’t use the same words for the entire thing. Like it’s surprising how many words you can substitute for “said” or “replied” or “laughed”! Writing flows more smoothly when there’s not the same words every time (however don’t use too many different words). Some examples of words you can use instead of “says” or “said”:

☯ growled ☯ gasped ☯ protested ☯ pouted ☯ shouted ☯ chuckled ☯ smirked ☯ hissed ☯ argued ☯ groaned ☯ suggested ☯ mused ☯ told ☯ sighed ☯ smiled ☯ stated ☯ remarked ☯ gulped ☯ trembled ☯ sobbed ☯ etc. ☯

» Spelling/Grammar: I am guilty of this occasionally, but having bad spelling and grammar is honestly the worst thing ever. Make sure after you write something you look over it (and read it out loud, it helps) and check for any mistakes in spelling and grammar (comma usage, use of the correct “yours” and “theres”). Also, generally in writings people don’t use certain slangs like “bc” or “w/e”.

» You need to have paragraph breaks, do not have one big bubble of writing or I guarantee you barely anyone will read it because it’s very choppy! In preferences however you only need breaks between different boys.

» Don’t make the people you’re writing about into new characters (unless it’s smut or an AU than it’s a whole different thing). For example, try to stick to the celebrities personalities, don’t make Luke Hemmings some brave, loud and bold person in every preference, because that boy cannot even hug girls properly, he’s not going to be loud in bold in every single situation.

» Also, you don’t need to sound like a pretentious douchebag when you write. By this I mean you don’t need to use all these large and fancy words in your writings, it’s more appealing to people when it’s simpler. This isn’t English class, you don’t need to use “chatoyant” or “cumulonimbus” or “abderian”, okay?

» Make sure you write so the character shows the emotion they’re feeling. Like when people are scared they shiver, they cry, etc. When people are angry their voice trembles, their fists clench, the jaw tightens, when people are happy they smile, they rock back and forth on their heels, etc.

SMUT & SEXUAL SCENES:

» Don’t call penises “wieners” or “thingys”, call them dicks, shafts, lengths, idc just not those two words, damn, we aren’t five years old.

» Be descriptive. You need to set the scene, as with any writing, people can’t always imagine the scenario you’re in, so you have to describe it.

» Don’t call sex frick frack or frickle frackle or no one will ever read your smut I can guarantee.

» Set the mood, sex has gotta have a lever. (pull the lever kronk)

» BE REALISTIC: He is not going to have a twelve-inch dick. They are not going to release after two thrusts.

» Do not keep saying “i was surprised by how big he was” no sorry to break the news to you but not every guy has a big dick, sometimes you’re gonna be disappointed in life.

» PEOPLE DO NOT RELEASE/CUM AT THE SAME TIME THIS IS REALLY HARD TO DO. Seriously like/ boys usually cum before the girls do. Again, be realistic.

» Have a basic knowledge of sex. Like read about stuff or read other people’s smut (don’t steal ideas or copy and paste though). You need to know how the whole thing works okay??

» Sometimes you have to like do a little background with the sex in smut. Like are the people in the smut virgins? Are they usually rough/kinky? Are they dating? Are they FWB’s? What’s the situation? Are they in the closet? Are they in the kitchen??????

» Avoid cliche and weird smut things. I have literally seen people use “his dingaling” “his garden of love” “his sausage” and I just please do not do that it makes people awkward and uncomfortable. And don’t do typical things all the time (it’s okay to do them sometimes you know) but like when you write smut don’t do the same position/place every time, change it up.

» The use of “rip off his clothes”. Okay really. Seriously. Unless you’ve seriously set a mood of intense desire you’re not going to rip off someone’s clothes. You may slowly take them off as their fingers slowly trace along the skin or you may pull them off in a hurry and chuck it across the room, but you’re probably not going to rip off their clothes okay? Okay.

» Girls don’t always bleed and cry during their first time, they’re actually not supposed to, so please do not write virgin blood bath smut it’s pretty gross.

» “You’re so tight” No. Please stop using this in every single smut ffs. She should not be super tight if she’s aroused, in case you didn’t know. It just gets really annoying, it is like with the whole “wow you’re so big thing” it’s silly, inaccurate and repetitive.

» Lastly the insecurity part. I get some passionate cute smut is where the guy makes the girl feel pretty and such, but don’t do that every time because it gets quite old you know?

» Oh I lied okay lastly; some people aren’t comfortable writing this but I will let you know adding foreplay makes smut a lot better, most people when having sex don’t just get straight to the actual sex, again it’s gotta be realistic.
